We’re growing! (more than just veggies ;)

The Community Farm team is happy to announce that the Village Board approved plans for expanding our growing space behind the Fire Department this week.

The plan gives the farm approximately 625 ft of additional fenced in garden, holding 7+ new beds. That’s 40% more space to grow! Check out the drawing included below for more detail. Don’t worry, there are already plans for all the tomatoes, cucumbers, greens + more we’ll be able to plant this year.

Major thanks to the Village Board, the Athens Community Foundation for their grant and the Athens Dept. of Public Works for their support excavating and re-routing some drainage to make this expansion possible.

Work should begin on the space as soon as the ground can be worked in the Spring. We expect volunteer days to kick off in late March/early April and we should have veggies to pick starting in late May/early June. Stay tuned for more info on how to help out with the expansion project and other opportunities this season!
